Breck Childrens Farm was a bit scruffy & not good value but ok for a rainy day as was soft play at the Leisure Centre. "Lovely week. Weather was mixed, it only seemed to rain when we went into Kirkwall! We did Scara Brae (v. good), Italian Chapel - very moving and St Magnus Cathedral - excellent! We only ate out once and had lunch at Skippers (Kirkwall Hotel) - food was excellent. Sheila and Kenny made us more than welcome and property well worth the 4star rating. "We have so enjoyed our time here. Your collection of Orkney related books is excellent; our 7 year old especially enjoyed The Beano and The Dandy. We (adults) appreciated knowing some history of the area. Future guests: if you have young children we'd recommend the Broch of Gurness. They can climb around the ditch and enter all the chambers - it's lots more fun for them than Scara Brae. Took the ferry to Stronsay where we saw 18-19 seals on the beach at Holland Farm. Also found a fabulous vertebra (whale? dolphin?) on the deserted sandy beach, Rothiesholm Sand. The photos and other artwork in the cottage are lovely.
